Memory Tree
Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 3, 2026
Memory Tree is a private family journal app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
When you use Memory Tree, we may collect and store the following information:
- Account information, such as your email address, authentication identifier, display name, profile photo, and app session details.
- Timeline information, such as timeline names, birth years, shared timeline settings, timeline order, local nicknames, and profile photos. We do not ask for or collect gender.
- User content, such as memory bullets, essays, photos, voice recordings, transcriptions, and AI-organized memory previews.
- Invite information, such as invite codes and recipient email addresses when you choose to send an invitation.
- Notification information, such as your notification permission, preferences, device token, and language, when you choose to receive reminders or family updates.
- Technical and analytics information needed to sync, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the app, such as app version, device context, feature usage, error information, and derived age bands.
How we use information
We use information to provide core app functionality, including account sign-in, timeline sync, profile photos, photo and voice storage, invitations, AI search, voice transcription, memory organization, export, notifications, account deletion, security, and customer support.
Photos, audio, and family memories
Your photos, audio recordings, and written memories are used to display and sync your timelines. Voice recordings and typed entries may be processed to create transcriptions and organize memories into the appropriate years and bullets. Photos and thumbnails may be cached on your device to improve loading speed and offline viewing.
Private content access
Your photos, voice recordings, transcripts, and memory entries are private to you and the family members you choose to share with. Memory Tree does not include an operator dashboard or content-viewing tool. Operators cannot browse, read, view, or listen to this content through the product. Only the signed-in timeline owner and invited family members can open it in Memory Tree. We never sell your private content, use it for advertising, or use it for unrelated purposes.
AI features
Memory Tree uses the OpenAI API to power features such as voice transcription, memory organization, and AI search. When you use one of these features, the text, voice recording, and limited related context needed for that request may be sent securely to OpenAI. OpenAI states that API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models by default, and Memory Tree configures supported requests not to store response application state. API keys are stored securely on the server, not in the app.
If online transcription is unavailable, Memory Tree may use Apple's on-device speech recognition as a fallback when supported by your device. In that fallback, the transcription is processed on your device.
Notifications
Notifications are optional. If you tap “Remind Me” or enable notifications in Settings, iOS will ask for permission and Memory Tree may schedule gentle first-memory reminders and register your device for family activity updates. We store the notification preference and device token needed to deliver those notifications. First-memory reminders stop when you add your first memory, and you can change notification choices in the app or in iOS Settings.
Sharing
You can choose to share timelines with family members. Shared timelines may be visible to invited members according to the sharing settings in the app. We do not sell your personal information.
Service providers
Memory Tree uses service providers, including Supabase for authentication, database sync, file storage, and server functions; OpenAI for requested AI features; PostHog for privacy-conscious analytics and error monitoring; and Apple for sign-in, notification delivery, and supported on-device services. These providers process information only as needed to provide their services to Memory Tree.
Analytics
We use PostHog analytics to understand basic app and website activity, such as app opens, screen names, feature usage, website page visits, referrers, and support link clicks. We may use your birth year and a derived age band to understand the age composition of our audience. We do not collect gender, and we do not send your private memory text, transcripts, photos, audio, invite tokens, authentication codes, or passwords to analytics.
Tracking and advertising
Memory Tree does not use third-party advertising and does not track you across apps or websites for advertising purposes.
Data retention and deletion
Your account and content are kept while your account is active. You may delete memories, photos, and voice recordings in the app. You may also delete your account from Settings. If you need help with account deletion or data removal, contact us at [email protected].
Children and family use
Memory Tree may be used by adults to create and manage timelines for family members, including children. The app is intended for family journaling and private memory keeping.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. Memory content and media are stored in private, access-controlled systems, and row-level access rules restrict content to the account owner and family members the owner has invited. No online service can guarantee perfect security, so please use a strong password and only share timelines with people you trust.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and may provide additional notice in the app or on this website.
